Considering of wind load and door weight is an important factor while selecting right hardware or automatic operators for doors fixing at different areas of a building. Mock-up sample installation and testing is the best solution to finalize a suitable product for each area besides depending on engineering theory and expert’s opinion will not be a perfect solution in every occasion.
Send your queries to us for a better selection of suitable door hardware or automatic operators for your door at different areas in consideration of wind load and door weight. Because we shall assist you for the right selection of products from various reputed brands worldwide at your budgeted price.
1. Wind load calculation:
Formula to find wind load = A x P x Cd
Where F is the force or wind load, A is the projected area of the object, P is the wind pressure, and Cd is the drag coefficient.
Most importantly this equation is useful for estimating the wind load on a specific object
Pressure of wind is given by the equation P = 0.00256 x V2, where V is the speed of the wind in miles per hour (mph). The unit for wind pressure is pounds per square foot (psf).
For example, if the wind speed is 70 mph, the wind pressure is 0.00256 x 702 = 12.5 psf.
2. Glassdoor / Panel weight calculation :
Glass Weight in KG
Formula = Area of glass M2 (Length x Width) x Thickness of the glass x 2.5 Kg (coefficient)
Eg. If Glass Length: 2200 mm, Width: 900 mm and thickness:12 mm
The equation would be as follows:-
2.200 (Mtr) x .900 (Mtr) x 12 (mm) x 2.5 (Kg)= 59.40 Kg
3. Timber / Steel door weight calculation:
Wooden / Timber door weight calculation is based on the factors of materials used i.e wood, hardboard, MDF.
Steel door weight also considering its factors and various type of steel gauges and infilling materials. Hence refer standards tables to find door weight.
Depending on the materials used, the weight results may differ.
Formula = Door Weight (kg) = Density (Specific Gravity) X Door Height (mm) X Door Width (mm) X Door Thickness (mm) ÷ 1,000,000
The equation would be as follows:-
1 x 2200 (mm) x 900 (mm) x 45 (mm) /1,000,000 = 89.10 Kg
