Smoke / Skylight Windows

Necessity of Smoke / Skylight Windows:

SHE / RWA : Smoke and Heat Extraction skylight windows are very much necessary for all buildings like hotel, flats and high rise buildings.

Fire and smoke pose a serious threat to human life and health. Contrary to popular belief, over 90% of fire related deaths are caused by smoke suffocation. But it is not because of high temperature or burning. Smoke also causes considerable damage to property equipment. If appropriate automatic smoke and heat escape systems are installed, it can provide considerable help in preventing the dangers caused by high concentrations of smoke and heat.

The smoke ventilation window with a motor operated by a perfect smoke control unit co-operating with smoke sensor and alarm switch. This will creates a so-called “smoke and heat carrying away gravitational unit”. Manual Window opening system also can be considered for small buildings. Skylight windows automated system is applied in public buildings (especially in stairways and in blocks of flats, hotels etc.).

How is fire and smoke affecting human lives?

Fire and smoke pose a serious threat to human life and health. Contrary to popular belief, over 90% of fire related deaths are caused by smoke suffocation, and not by high temperature or burning. Smoke also causes considerable damage to property. Applying appropriate smoke and heat escape systems can provide considerable help in preventing the dangers caused by high concentrations of smoke and heat. The smoke ventilation window FSP with a motor operated by smoke control unit co-operating with smoke sensor and alarm switch creates a so-called “smoke and heat carrying away gravitational unit”. The system is applied in public buildings (especially in stairways and in blocks of flats, hotels etc.).

Uses of SHE (Smoke and Heat Extraction) system:

When fire breaks out in a building, it transforms a typically safe environment into an incredibly scary place to be – an easy place to feel trapped, unsafe and terrified. Advancements in fire safety technology and improvements to the fire code mean that the majority of buildings. Especially that have a high fire risk, are designed for optimal fire safety.

So Smoke / skylight windows are one of the most important aspects of fire-safe design. Particularly in large offices and industrial buildings. Smoke vents stop smoke from building up inside your building in the event of a large-scale fire breaking out.

Installation of automatic smoke ventilation system has many uses. It prevents smoke inhalation from claiming lives, makes it easier for rescue workers to locate the source of a fire and places a limit on the total level of damage that a serious fire can cause.

In this post, we’ll look at how smoke vents work and explain why they’re such an important choice for any large commercial or industrial building. We’ll also look at how installing smoke vents in your building can make its occupants much safer.

Working of smoke vents:

Smoke vents use a simple design and high quality materials to automatically vent hazardous smoke from inside your building in the event of a fire. It can be opened in one of several ways, depending on the specific type of vent.

Exterior manual release vents use an exterior release handle, which when opened, allows smoke to vent out of the building. Once the handle is pulled, both vent doors open and vent hazardous smoke out of the building, improving its safety.

Many smoke vents are also designed with an interior fusible link. This is similar in purpose to the types of fuses found on old electrical circuits – when it’s exposed to an excessive temperature, it burns away and automatically opens the vent doors.

Fusible links are designed to allow a smoke vent to open itself automatically in the event of a serious fire breaking out. Since the fuse only burns away at a very high temperature, it’s impossible for the vent to open itself without a fire present.

Finally, many smoke vents work using an electrical mechanism. These vents can be controlled remotely using an electronic interface, allowing multiple vents to open at the same time in the event of a serious fire affecting a building’s safety.

Keep safe and save lives by

Smoke vents:

The system play an important role in fire safety, particularly in large buildings that contain potentially flammable materials. When correctly installed and used, a smoke venting system can save lives and protect your building from structural damage.

On average, more people are killed in serious fires due to smoke inhalation than fire itself. Effective smoke venting prevents excessive amounts of smoke from collecting inside your building’s interior, which can lead to smoke inhalation for people inside.

It also improves visibility inside your building, making it easier for any people still inside to access the emergency fire exits. This visibility improvement has a beneficial effect for firefighters and emergency workers that enter the building.

Finally, smoke venting helps firefighters locate a fire within a building. Since smoke vents show exactly where the source of smoke is, it’s easier for firefighters to locate fire in a building with venting than in a non ventilated building.

This makes fighting the fire easier, reducing the total damage to your building and potentially saving lives. For this reason, smoke venting is one of the most essential aspects of fire-safe building design.

Does your building use smoke venting?

Smoke vents aren’t an optional extra for optimal fire safety – They’re an essential aspect of keeping your building safe in the event of a fire. Does your building use smoke venting to increase safety and save lives in the event of a fire breaking out?

Smoke and heat extraction SHE RWA various brands

Hörmann air inlet control AC72 - Launched

Air inlet control system Hormann AC72 :

Hörmann World’s leading brand for door automation launched SHE (smoke and heat extraction system) air inlet control AC72.

It is a control for the integration of door systems as a secure supply air inlet tracking system for smoke ventilation and it can be integrated into an existing or planned SHE (smoke and heat extraction system).

Functions of Hormann air inlet control AC72 :

In combination with a WA 300 S4 / WA 300 (A)R S4 (cannot be combined with the 360 control), the monitored, battery-buffered control moves Hörmann sectional or roller garage doors into a defined air inlet position independently of the mains supply. The battery capacity corresponds to 72 h in accordance with DIN EN 12101-10:2015 Smoke and heat control systems, Part 10: Power supplies.

On command from the SHE, the door opens automatically and parallel to the smoke extraction flaps. Within 60 seconds (in accordance with DIN EN 12101-2:2017), the required minimum opening height is reached. After reaching the air inlet position, the targeted use of supply air ensures a stable low-smoke layer near to the floor.

The batteries of the air inlet control AC72 are charged via the WA 300 as standard. If compliance with the charging times according to DIN EN 12101-10:2015 is required (min. 80 % of its nominal power after 24 h and up to its nominal power within a further 48 h), an external power supply unit (see below, further accessories) must be used.

Advantages of Hormann air inlet control AC72:

A big advantage compared to expensive ventilation flaps, which have to be integrated separately into the facade only for this application, is the integration of the existing sectional or roller garage doors into the smoke extraction concept.

In addition to the personal and property protection of the building including the goods and raw materials, the support of extinguishing measures by the fire brigade and keeping escape and rescue routes free of smoke is achieved.

The following accessories can be ordered as required:
• Power supply unit 24 V / 1A (4548491)
• Power supply unit connection accessories (636356)
• Cable monitoring UEB3-2K7-AE (635447)
